Effects of Nutrient Runoff on Photosynthetic Rate and Carbon Concentrating Mechanisms
Measuring the effects of nutrient runoff from coastal agricultural sites on a keystone species' oxygen production, photosynthetic rate, and carbon concentrating mechanisms.
Runoff from coastal agriculture changes the water a keystone species lives in. This study measures what that does to the organism’s oxygen production and photosynthetic rate, and to the carbon concentrating mechanisms it uses to pull inorganic carbon out of seawater.
A keystone species is a load-bearing wall: the consequences of a change in its productivity are not confined to it.
